KAMPALA - Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo has advised the newly sworn-in Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) commissioners to carry out their duties diligently. 

He made the remarks while presiding over the swearing-in ceremony of commissioners at the UHRC and a representative of the public at the Judicial Service Commission. 

“In the oath, you have taken, mark the words therein. You have pledged to do your work without fear or favour. Do not favour or please anyone because you have been appointed to make sure that the rule of law prevails,” Owiny-Dollo said. 

He also revealed that the judiciary was undergoing transformation that will enable the public access services easily.  

“We hope by the end of this financial year, we will be able to have a chief magistrate in every district, a magistrate court in every constituency and a high court in Apac, Kumi, Luwero, Mityana, Ibanda, Iganga, Tororo, Moroto, Kitgum and Nebbi,” Owiny-Dollo added. 

The new UHRC commissioners include; Mariam Wangadya, Chairperson, Fr Simon Lokodo, Crispin Kaheru, Shifrah Lukwago and Jacklet Atuhaire. 

Jimmy Okello was sworn in as a member of the commission representing the public.
