KAMPALA - The Police in Kampala city (KMP) say their territorial Police at Central Police Station (CPS) have carried an operation targeting suspected thieves in which 80 people were arrested.

KMP spokesperson Racheal Kawala today, January 13, 2026, said the disruptive operation aimed at fighting crime in Kampala.

“The operation was carried out on January 13, 2026, at about 02: 00pm, covering Arua Park, Old Taxi Park, Nakivubo Road, Biwologoma, Nkrumah, Punjani and Mukwano Roundabout, among other areas.  The operation targeted criminal elements who waylay members of the public at identified black spots and engage in criminal activities,” Kawala said.

All suspects, Kawala said, are currently in Police custody pending court appearance. She said the operations will continue.

The operations, which come less than 48 hours to the General Election, come in the wake of a series of other operations conducted around KMP to rid the region pf suspected criminals.

Kampala remains a crime hotspot, given its status as an economic hub, coupled with high inequality, which criminal experts say creates fertile ground for crime.

Some of the crimes reported include substance abuse, muggings, robbery, burglary, hijackings, among others.
