Christians in the Diocese of Ankole have been advised to use worldly wealth to secure eternal and spiritual friendships, as this will enable them to gain the future favour of God and conquer death.
The call was made by Rt Rev. Assoc. Prof. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa, the Bishop of Ankole Diocese, while delivering his Easter sermon to hundreds of Christians who attended the Easter service at St. James Cathedral Ruharo in Mbarara city on Sunday (April 5).
The service attracted Christians from different parts of the diocese.
Bishop Mwesigwa asked Christians to reflect on the goodness of the Lord and to stop being seasonal and part-time believers, emphasising that the resurrection power of Jesus Christ will help them to overcome sin.

Bishop Mwesigwa also challenged Christians to stop concentrating much of their attention on worldly things. Instead, they should strengthen their spiritual lives, emphasising spiritual values such as peace, love for each other, and above all, faith.
“In Uganda, the biggest problem is that many people concentrate only on things of the world, it is a man-eateth-man society, and people don’t have accountability to God out there. Even those who go to church, some of them don't internalise that there will be judgment,” Mwesigwa stated.
He reminded Christians that the resurrection of Jesus is a central part of the Christian faith.
“Without resurrection, we wouldn’t be Christians, it’s a very exciting time, the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ because this is a time when Jesus conquered death, we have an empty tomb John 21:7 Mary Magdalene coming and telling Peter and other disciples of the resurrection,” he quoted.
In his message, Rev. Canon Bobs Mwesigye, Dean of St James Cathedral Ruharo, urged Christians to always seek forgiveness even when they go wrong and to give thanks to God. Mwesigye also advised Christians to engage in productive work that contributes to growth in their families, noting that Jesus was a hard worker while also preaching the word of God.
Elsewhere in North Ankole Diocese, Rt Rev. Alfred Muhoozi also asked Christians to repent, purify their lives, and renew their faith, as this will help them turn away from the darkness of sin. Bishop Muhoozi made the call while preaching to Christians who attended the Easter service at Emmanuel Cathedral Rushere in Nyabushozi County, Kiruhura district.
At Kinoni Archdeaconry, Rev. Emmanuel Munyaneza, the Archdeacon, preached the gospel of peace and asked Christians to help those who are helpless.
At Uganda Martyrs, Fr Didus Kasapuri, the parish priest, led mass, preached the gospel of love for each other, reconciliation, and asked believers to build on the resurrection of Jesus, seek forgiveness from God, and dedicate their lives to Him.
