David Lutalo has criticized those who rate them and their songs, claiming that such ratings/rankings do not make sense.
"Stop rating my music. Those ratings do not attract my attention. It is for bragging purposes for those who do the ratings,” said Lutalo during an interview after a performance in Kawanda over the weekend.
He explained that the ratings discourage rising artistes and those aspiring to join music by presenting a stiff and unhealthy competition.
Lutalo claims that fellow artiste’s ratings and views about his music do not matter. “It is about the people, the fans who listen to the music but not fellow artistes like Bebe Cool,” he said.
Bebe Cool releases a top songs/artistes list every year.
"I have seen my fellow musicians, like Bebe Cool, with his annual list where he analyzes and credits artistes and their songs. Others call themselves the 'Big Three,' which includes Bebe Cool, Jose Chameleone, and Bobi Wine, even after a long time without releasing music. These musicians give themselves high ratings, but when they organize shows, people do not attend, and the numbers do not reflect their popularity. This means that the numbers are not truly theirs," Lutalo argued.
He advises artistes to work hard at their craft so fans can rate them and support them by attending concerts.
“I only consider the opinions of fans, who vote for me at awards. I have been nominated for and won many awards,” he says.
Internationally, platforms like the US Billboard Chart rank artists based on sales (physical and digital), online streaming, and radio airplay in the U.S.
A new chart is compiled and released online to the public by Billboard's website on Tuesdays but post-dated to the following Saturday when the printed magazine first reaches newsstands.
