The 2023 USPA road safety campaign program is on this week.

The Mandela Group of Companies has joined the program for the 13th year running and has injected sh5m into the event.

SC Villa president, Haji Omar Mandela hailed sports journalists under USPA for the annual effort of campaigning for road safety to reduce road carnage.

He said that the campaign is not only limited to the sports fraternity but the whole population, citing the increasing number of accidents that have claimed lives in the recent past.

“You do a commendable job beyond sports. Everyone is susceptible to accidents and death but the campaign you lead every year is very important in reducing road carnage and that is why City Tyres has supported you for the last 12 years. We urge all road users to be cautious to avoid accidents,” Mandela said.

“Our business is directly linked to road use. Road carnage is still a serious issue. We thank you to remember the four journalists who perished at Lugazi in 2001 which is the background of this annual campaign,” Bashasha said as he banded over the cheque, 100 reflectors, and T-Shirts with Supreme floor to distribute to the residents of Lugazi where the campaign will climax on Saturday.

USPA, City Tyres, and other sponsors such as Plascon and the Ministry of Works will join hands to paint a Zebra Crossing at Lugazi and re-painting the monument where their colleagues perished.

The day will also see a football competition between the USPA, sponsors, and the fans team at Lugazi.
