The Church of Uganda is sending 207 delegates to the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON), which is due to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, next week, from Monday (April 17) to Friday (April 21, 2023).

The GAFCON movement, whose first conference was held in Jerusalem in 2008, defines itself as a global family of authentic Anglicans that are standing together to retain and restore the Bible to the heart of the Anglican Communion.

Their mission is to guard the unchanging, transforming Gospel of Jesus Christ and to proclaim Him to the world.

The GAFCON Conference in Kigali will discuss various sensitive issues in the Global Anglican Communion, including the acceptance of same-sex unions and same-sex marriages by the General Synod of the Church of England.

Addressing a press conference at his Palace in Namirembe on Friday (April 14, 2023), the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu asked Christians and all Ugandans to pray for the conference to prevail smoothly and successfully.

“Your global Anglican leaders need the wisdom of Solomon to honour the past, embrace the future, stay faithful to the Bible, and never cease to proclaim Christ faithfully to the nations.”

The conference is expected to gather 1,300 Christians from 53 countries. It will run under the theme: To whom shall we go?
