Brigadier General Joseph Musoke Ssemwanga has been promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed Deputy Commander, Land Forces.

According to the acting Director Defence Public Information, Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Col Chris Magezi, Musoke's appointment took effect in December 2025, after Maj. Gen. Francis Takirwa, who has been in the position, fell ill.

"He was, until recently, the Contingent Commander of UPDF troops serving under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). Before his deployment to Somalia towards the end of 2024, Maj. Gen. Ssemwanga served as the first Infantry Division Commander with headquarters at Kakiri, Wakiso District," said Magezi.

He (Magezi) says the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations (SPA/SO) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba made the changes based on merit.
