CDF Gen. Kainerugaba hosts his Rwanda counterpart

The Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has held talks with his Rwanda counterpart.

According to a release from the Ministry of Defence and Veterans' Affairs, the meeting with General Mubarakh Muganga, the Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF), took place on Saturday, May 25, at the Army headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala.

"This is part of routine engagements that contribute to the ongoing security dialogue between Uganda and Rwanda," states a release from the CDF's office.

Lt Gen. Kayanja Muhanga the Commander of Land Forces, and Chief of Military Intelligence Maj. Gen. James Birungi attended the meeting.

Later in the evening, Muganga and his delegation were treated to a Ugandan cultural night hosted by Gen. Kainerugaba at Ndere Centre in Kisasi, a Kampala city suburb.

Guests included senior UPDF officers and officials from the Rwanda High Commission in Uganda.

The Kainerugaba meeting with Muganga comes a few weeks after the CDF hosted another high-profile engagement with a delegation from the Rwanda Defence Forces last month.

The Kigali team who met Gen. Kainerugaba at his office in Mbuya to discuss bilateral and regional security matters, was led by RDF Army Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Vincent Nyakarundi.

Who is Gen. Muganga

On June 5, 2023, President Paul Kagame, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Rwanda Defence Forces appointed Lt. Gen. Muganga as the Chief of Defence Staff, replacing Gen Jean-Bosco Kazura.

A few months later on December 20, 2023, Muganga was promoted to the rank of General.

Gen. Muganga, 56, is an experienced army officer who has served in the military for more than 30 years, in different leadership positions.
