Capt. Kabandize appointed SFC spokesperson; Maj. Omara begins further training

Captain Julius Kabandize has been appointed as the new Special Forces Command (SFC) Public Information Officer, replacing Maj. Jimmy Omara.
This follows the decision by SFC to send Maj. Omara to attend a one-year course in advanced training at the Senior Command and Staff College Kimaka.
According to a statement from the SFC leadership, Omara will undergo advanced military training in an effort to strengthen his command and leadership skills.
The statement released on Monday, August 3, 2026, said Capt. Kabandize will take over the responsibility of handling public communication, media engagements, and sharing official information on behalf of SFC.
"The leadership change is part of the Uganda People's Defense Force’s continued efforts to develop its officers through professional training while ensuring smooth transitions within its units," the statement said, adding; “Maj. Omara’s move to Kimaka reflects the importance placed on continuous professional development among military officers, especially those preparing for higher leadership roles.”
Meanwhile, SFC said Capt. Kabandize begins his new assignment at a time when effective communication remains a key part of military operations, helping to keep the public informed about the activities and responsibilities of the elite force.
The SFC thanked Maj. Omara for his service and wished him success in his studies, while welcoming Capt. Kabandize into his new role.
SFC also announced that it had effected a series of changes in key leadership positions across its formations and directorates, with several officers assuming new appointments.

Among the changes is the appointment of Brig. Gen. John Mango Baraza as the new SFC Chief of Staff, succeeding Brig. Gen. Paul Wanyera Namawa, who is set to attend a strategic course at the National Defence College in Buikwe district, Uganda.

Nyakikuru commended Brig. Gen. Namawa for laying a strong foundation for the office of SFC chief of staff and applauded his leadership and achievements during his tenure.
He urged Brig. Gen. Baraza to consult his predecessor whenever necessary and emphasised the importance of teamwork, professionalism and commitment to advancing the service.
