Byabashaija promotes Prisons officers

According to the statement issued on June 9, 2023, Byabashaija also appointed nine deputy officers in charge of different stations across the country.

Commissioner of Prisons Dr Johnson Byabashaija has promoted five directors at the Uganda Prisons Services (UPS).

According to a statement issued by UPS public relations office, Byabashaija elevated five directors to the rank of assistant commissioner general of prisons. Those promoted are:

  • John Bosco Tumwebaze in charge of administration
  • Milton Tiyo in charge of correctional services
  • Robert Munanura — production and engineering
  • Hillary Bisanga — human resource management 
  • George Muge — corporate and co-operation affairs.

According to the statement issued on June 9, 2023, Byabashaija also appointed nine deputy officers in charge of different stations across the country. 

The new deputies are John Mwima, Herbert Kabanza, Nesterio Guy Besize, Godfrey Olwor, Aggrey Ogweng, Julius Wasike, Joseph Peter Ogwang, Justus Gumisiriza and George Obong.

According to the statement signed by Byabashaija, the appointment of the new officers, which take immediate effect, must be supervised by the regional prisons commanders and district prisons commanders 'without fail'.

The exercise, according to the commissioner, must be completed by June 16, 2023. 

The mandate of the prisons is to ensure that every person detained in prison is treated in humane, safe custody, produced in court whenever it is required until that person is lawfully discharged from prison.
