Uganda’s entertainment industry has been hit with a heavy loss following the sudden death of veteran media personality and DJ, Bush Baby, born Michael Owor.
Bush Baby was found dead by family members at his residence in Bugonga Barracks, Entebbe.
The cause of his death is still unknown, but the news has sent shockwaves through the creative and media community, where he had made an indelible mark for over two decades.
His passing comes just a few years after surviving a life-threatening accident during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2021. While washing his car, he stepped on a broken manhole cover, resulting in a fractured hip and serious internal injuries.
Bush Baby later revealed that the accident damaged vital organs, prompting a public fundraiser to raise sh15m for surgery.
Thanks to generous well-wishers, Bush Baby underwent successful surgery at URO Care Hospital, later sharing updates about his recovery.
“I’m feeling better. I still have two catheters inserted they’ll be removed after my review,” he said in a 2021 interview.
Following his recovery, he returned to the entertainment scene with renewed energy, DJing at events and hangouts. He was set to perform at The Gardens in Najjera on Saturday.
Bush Baby’s career spanned radio, television, and events, having worked with top media houses like East African Radio in Tanzania. He also headed Urban TV and served as a Lifestyle and Entertainment Content Manager at Vision Group.
He will be remembered as a passionate promoter of Ugandan music, a mentor to many young creatives, and a resilient spirit who rose above life’s setbacks.
Funeral arrangements will be communicated by the family in due course. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
