Bunyoro gears up for Omukama coronation anniversary
The Kingdom is currently seeking about shillings 300 million to fund various activities, including an Empango marathon, a business exhibition and a music festival.

Preparations are underway in Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom for the 31st anniversary of the coronation (Empango) of Omukama Dr Solomon Gafabusa Agutamba Iguru.
The event slated for June 11, 2025, which commemorates the day Omukama Iguru ascended to the throne in 1994, is expected to attract thousands of kingdom subjects to the palace (Karuzika) to attend the function.
During the celebrations, guests are treated to different cultural performances including dances, drama, and poetry recitals.

Kingdom premier Andrew Byakutaga, while receiving a donation of shillings 10 million from Kinyara Sugar Works on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, called on the Kingdom subjects to positively contribute to the coronation anniversary and turn up in large numbers to grace the function.
“We are appealing to all the subjects of the king to turn up in high numbers and participate in the activities which have been lined up as we commemorate the 31 years of Omukama Solomon Iguru’s reign.
Byakutaga expressed gratitude for Kinyara Sugar's generous support towards both the Empango Run and the coronation anniversary.
He also commended Kinyara Sugar for its contribution towards the social economic development of Bunyoro in terms of giving employment and business opportunities to the people as well as Corporate Social Responsibility programs in communities.
Kinyara CEO Ravi Ramalingam disclosed the company's contribution towards the royal celebrations.
Kinyara Sugar spokesperson Francis Mugerwa appreciated Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom for hosting the company's delegation and revealed that the company prioritises culture among the programmes that are supported under the Corporate Social Responsibility interventions.
"We already have a cordial working relationship with the Bunyoro kingdom and the people of Bunyoro-Kitara. We are here to further grow our relationship for the mutual benefit of all of us, Mugerwa said.
