Detectives from the Uganda Police Force have interrogated a Kenyan mother of five over the murder of her two daughters.
On Friday, August 21, Police questioned the 43-year-old Dorothy Namayo, currently at Mulago National Referral Hospital, where she is admitted under police guard.
Namayo is a prime suspect in the murder of her two daughters and the attempted murder of her three other daughters aged 13, 8 and 5 years.
The deceased were named as: Khadija Daizy, a 14-year-old and Hawa Dalena, aged 7 years.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, told New Vision on Saturday that the suspect had shared vital information with police detectives that could help them discover the intention behind the murder.
"She responded positively, and the investigating team will still go back and get information, if necessary,” said Kawala.
The gruesome incident at Namayo's marital homes that occurred at her home on Friday, August 21, at about 4:00am.
Kabalagala Police Division registered a case of murder, attempted murder and arson at Kalungu Bunga, Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala District.
According to a police statement, a housemaid, in her account, said that she was awakened by an alarm and cries for help from children in the main house.
“The maid immediately opened the house and discovered several children sustained severe knife wounds. Whereas Khadija's body was recovered from the bedroom, Hawa succumbed to her injuries at Nsambya Hospital.
Three other children, aged 13, 8 and 5 years, survived the attack and were rushed to hospital for medical attention,” according to police.
By Friday, the bereaved father, Ederisa Troy, a Malian national, had not yet recorded any statement with police.
“We have not yet got any statement from Edirisa because "He is currently looking after the three injured children at Mulago National Referral Hospital who survived the attack,” said Kawala in an interview with the New Vision.
She said that police will arraign Namayo, the suspect, in court once the investigations are done and the suspect is discharged from Mulago Hospital.
On Friday, Ederisa Troy led mourners at the burial of his daughters, Khadija and Hawa, at Kololo cemetery in Kampala.
