Bukedea food handlers ordered to undergo medical screening

Food vendors and handlers in Bukedea Town Council, Bukedea district have been given a 14-day ultimatum to undergo medical examinations and obtain health certificates as authorities intensify efforts to protect public health.
Bukedea Health Officer Stephen Osomele says the directive is in line with the Public Health Act, which requires all food handlers to be medically fit and operate in hygienic environments to prevent the spread of diseases.
He warns that anyone found suffering from communicable diseases will be required to seek treatment before resuming work.
Meanwhile, Bukedea Town Mayor Samuel Engole says the exercise targets restaurant operators, chapati vendors, water sellers, and all individuals involved in handling food. He notes that those who fail to comply risk having their businesses closed.
Food vendors have welcomed the move, saying it will help improve hygiene standards and reduce the spread of diseases in the community.
