KAMPALA - Famous blogger Ibrahim Tusubira aka Isma Olaxes has been killed in a shooting incident in Kyanja, a city suburb.

Tusubira died instantly after his car registration number UBK213D was sprayed with bullets on Saturday night.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident occurred at about 9:20pm in Kyanja Central zone.

"It is with great regret that we report the demise of Tusubira Ibrahim also known as Olaxes aka Jaja Ichuli," he said.

In a statement released Saturday evening, Owoyesigyire revealed that the blogger was killed as he travelled with his driver Wasswa Mathias.

He explained that an unidentified gunman, armed with an SMG, opened fire on the vehicle, killing Tusubira who was seated in the passenger seat.

"Our dedicated task team is on ground working diligently to gather all the evidence in order to conduct a thorough investigation on the matter," he said.

He added that as a precautionary measure, the area had been cordoned off to ensure the safety of the public and to facilitate the ongoing investigation process.

"We assure the public that everything is being done to bring perpetrators to justice and stop such acts of violence," he said.

By the time of his death, Tusubira was a bitter critic of politicians in government in his blogs.

The scene of Tusubira's killing is not far from where labour minister Col. Charles Engola was killed by his bodyguard early in the week.
