Bishop Zziwa replaces Kaziimba as Inter-Religious Council chairperson

Zziwa, who replaces the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba, will serve from 2026 up to 2029.

The Chairperson of the Episcopal Conference and Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana, Dr. Joseph Antony Zziwa has been elected as the new Chairperson of the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU).

Zziwa, who replaces the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba, will serve from 2026 up to 2029.

The election was unanimously endorsed during the IRCU Council of Presidents' meeting held on June 23, 2026, at the council offices in Kampala.

The IRCU is a leading interfaith organisation uniting the nation's major religious bodies to promote peace, dialogue, social cohesion, ethical leadership, and social development.

Founded in 2001, the IRCU mission is to promote dialogue, harmonious co-existence, and non-violent conflict resolution among all faith groups, while advocating for good governance, national reconciliation, and social welfare.
