Catholic priests in Soroti Catholic Diocese have been urged to stop living careless and reckless lives.

“Stop alcoholism and adultery among other sinful acts,” Bishop Dr Joseph Eciru Oliach of Soroti Catholic Diocese said.

The bishop made the remarks on April 12, 2022, while presiding over the Chrism Mass where all the Catholic priests in the diocese were renewing the promises they made as priests during ordination. The event took place at St Patrick's Catholic Parish, Madera in Soroti district.

The bishop said the priests should work towards saving people's souls from being taken away by the devil.

He added that they should guard priesthood jealously as God gave it to them.

Desist from tempting men of God

Immaculate Asege, a Christian at Immaculate Conception Cathedral, said Christians should also desist from tempting the priests by hosting them in their homes till the late hours. She was grateful that the message on stopping alcoholism had come at the right time.

Robert Ebelu, a chairperson of St Francis Catholic Church, Majengo in Soroti city, said the bishop is right and must have known that some priests are involved in adultery, a thing he said is wrong.
