Bishop Ssekadde celebrates 50 years of marriage

They celebrated their 50th marriage anniversary during a colourful thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe on Sunday (December 11, 2022).

The Bishop Emeritus of the Anglican Diocese of Namirembe, the Rt. Rev. Samuel Balagadde Ssekadde and his wife, Maama Allen Ssekadde are now a golden jubilarian couple. 

They celebrated their 50th marriage anniversary during a colourful thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe on Sunday (December 11, 2022).

The function was dignified with the presence of the Archbishop of the Church of the Province of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu. 

In attendance were also several other Anglican Prelates, including Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira of Namirembe Diocese, Bishop James Bukomeko of Mityana Diocese, Bishop James William Ssebaggala of Mukono Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Hannington Mutebi (assistant Bishop of Kampala Diocese), Bishop Elidard Nsubuga of Luweero diocese, Bishop Michael Lubowa of Central Buganda Diocese, Bishop Henry Katumba Tamale of West Buganda Diocese, Bishops Emeritus George Sinnabulya (Central Buganda), Dr. Wilson Mutebi (Mityana) and Dr. Dunstan Copliano Bukenya (Mukono) also graced the service.

Several dignitaries from Buganda and the central government, including the Nabagereka, Sylvia Nagginda, the speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko, the Rt. Hon. Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, the state minister for ICT, Joyce Nabbosa Ssebuggwawo, the Inspector General of Government, Hon. Beti Olive Namisango Kamya and the Vice President, Her Excellency Jessica Alupo, also graced the function.

In his message, delivered for him by Vice-President Jessica Alupo. President Museveni paid tribute to the Ssekaddes for their exemplary marriage, which he said, was an inspiration to young people aspiring for marriage and those already in marriage. 

He further lauded them, for their flowery priestly/episcopal ministry, which he referred to as fruitful. 

As a sign of gratitude for their good work that has yielded holistic development, President Museveni gave the Ssekaddes a cash donation of sh20m (twenty-million shillings). 

The money was handed over to the Ssekaddes by the Vice President, during the thanksgiving service.

The Guest Preacher, Bishop Emeritus Stephen Mwangi (from Nakuru, Kenya) Spoke highly of Bishop Ssekadde’s heart-rooted friendship and commitment to Christian salvation and urged Christians to emulate him.
