The Bishop of Karamoja Diocese, Rt. Rev. Michael Chorey, on Friday, August 30, received President Yoweri Museveni’s donation of a new vehicle to assist him in his pastoral duties.

Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo handed over the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado to Bishop Chorey during a meeting at her office in Kampala on Friday.

The vehicle was in fulfilment of a pledge made by the President during the Bishop's consecration ceremony in Moroto District on Sunday, August 25, 2024.

While handing over the vehicle, Alupo congratulated Bishop Chorey upon his election and consecration and appealed to the entire Karamoja Diocese to preach the gospel of socio-economic transformation of their people.

“Rally Christians to select an economic enterprise in the four sectors of commercial agriculture, industries, ICT and services. This will enable the households to become creators of wealth and jobs,” Alupo said.

She assured the Bishop of the government’s cooperation with the Church and the other faith groups in the country saying it will remain strong.

“It is a cooperation whose main goal is to mobilise God’s people to join the fight against poverty in their homes. Historically, the NRM has gained the reputation of being the vanguard of change and transformation,” the vice president said.

Bishop Chorey said the vehicle will be used to enhance God’s work in the Diocese and pledged to partner with the government to transform livelihoods.

On food security, peace and security, poverty alleviation and backwardness, he reiterated his pledge to encourage Christians to get involved in commercial agriculture to have what to eat and sell.

He said that he is committed to continue the Church’s partnership with the government in changing people’s lives through mindset change, commercial agriculture, and upholding security and unity in the region.

The Bishop used the same platform to thank the President of the Republic of Uganda, for creating and working to create relative peace in Karamoja that has allowed people to move freely from one part to another.

"Our shared vision is to build a church that is strong in faith, active in service and united in purpose. Together, we can achieve great things, inspired by our shared commitment to Christ and each other," he added.

The handover ceremony was witnessed by State Minister for labour Davinia Esther Anyakun, district chairperson of Amudat, and church leaders from Karamoja diocese.
