Charles Oyuk saw an opportunity in Keeping layers. He then hatched the idea to his wife, who then picked it up.

“I come from Kumi Municipality in Kumi District, northern division Kabata, 35 years old. I have been engaged in Poultry farming for 3 years now keeping layers and Kuroilers, I call it AJ Poultry farm,” he says.

AJ poultry farm on the 28th Dec 2022 after a visit to his friend’s farm in Kaliro, Busoga who was doing Poultry.

“I was inspired by what he was doing. I came and started with only 50 birds,” he says. Last year he sold over 3, 000 Kuroilers and currently he has 4590 birds (Both Kuroilers and layers).

“He now buys his stock (Low man breed) from the Netherlands. I have 4 good houses for my farm,” he says.

“We sell layer eggs to locals for home consumption and also to the business community in different parts of Kumi, Soroti, Ngora, Bukedea among others, ranging between shs10, 500-11, 000 per tray depending on what is in the market. The birds when we are off laying we sell between sh17, 000-20, 000shs but if it is a Kuroilor we sell them according to the weight, a female one sells ranging between sh20, 000-25, 000 and a male goes between sh30, 000-40, 000.
