Koboko District leaders together with partners Wednesday launched a road safety campaign to scale down road carnage as the festive season gains momentum.

The campaign attracted several partners including, the Uganda Red Cross Society, Muni University, the Rotary Club Koboko and Police.

Public sensitisation about road signs and marking of zebra crossings in Koboko town was conducted during the launch and this is expected to continue throughout the festive season.

The OC traffic Koboko, Edwin Kushaba Burengye, welcomed the joint efforts to reduce accidents.

Koboko District police commander, Henry Abaho, said the campaign would reduce the workload on law enforcers but expressed worry about overspeeding of smugglers.

The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) Arua station engineer in charge of road maintenance, James Rubagumya, blames the high rate of accidents for speeding and negligence.

Koboko District Internal Security Officer (DISO), Samuel Surundu, rallied stakeholders to focus on mindset change by the road users, especially along the Vurra-Koboko to Oraba highway.
