Police in Rukungiri, western Uganda were on Saturday still investigating the circumstances under which one of the men who attacked a resident was overpowered by a village mob and was lynched.    

It is said that Felix Akankundakare, a resident of Kahumiro in Rubabo, Rukungiri, got information that his wife, Agatha Naturinda, had allegedly hired men to kill him.

It is said on his way back home at about 9:00pm on June 07, 2023, he passed by his friend, Leokadia Kyabakabize's place and informed him about the ploy to end his life. 

During a chat with Kyabakabize, Akankundakare allegedly informed him that he had been informed about the entire plan, but after, he continued on his way home. 

However, according to Joshua Wasswa, a Police officer in charge of Rubabo Police Station, Akankundakare proceeded home. However, a few moments later, Kyabakabize heard Akankundakare crying out for help.

It is said Kyabakabize followed and using his phone flash, he allegedly saw from a distance two men assaulting the victim while lying on the ground, but when he approached the scene, they fled in different directions. 

It is said Kyabakabize made an alarm, calling for help from residents who gathered and a hunt for the men started, until they landed on one of them and with anger, started beating him until he became unconscious.  

The police said a Good Samaritan later picked up the unconscious man and took him to Rubabo Medical Center for treatment where he died from.  

 Akankundakare was also admitted to Kisiizi Hospital with severe injuries as inquiries continue. 

Police were also yet to identify the deceased. 

The case was recorded as murder by mob on CRB 799/2023.
