A select team of Arua City officials on Friday, July 10, 2026, joined by the Office of the Resident City Commissioner (RCC), inspected and supervised several roads in the city, with numerous gaps discovered that need to be fixed.
Among the key issues discovered are: narrow size of the already maintained roads, which is contrary to the standard planned size, poor drainage system maintenance, lack of marram on the maintained roads, narrow culverts and use of muddy soils to construct instead of prequalified sand for the construction of culverts.
Arua City is concluding the maintenance of roads under the sh1b road maintenance fund and additional sh299m under the Uganda Road Fund.
Speaking after the road inspection and monitoring, the Mayor of Ayivu Division, Malon Avutia, challenged the Arua City engineering department to ensure the roads maintain their original state to avoid future incumbrances.
Mary Dawaru, the senior environment officer, Ayivu Division in Arua City, says most of the roads have standard measurements that should be followed.
