Arua Central Division in Arua city has received funding to begin construction of a three-storey council complex, estimated to cost sh1.6 billion.
Division mayor Muzaid Khemis revealed during a stakeholders' meeting held on April 7, 2025, at the division headquarters that they successfully lobbied for initial funding to construct the new office block.
Muzaid explained that the current office space is inadequate for both technical and political staff. He confirmed that the division has already received sh600 million to commence construction, with the balance to be released in phases. Construction works are scheduled to begin in June 2025.
Central Division town clerk, Drakuma, recalled that upon his deployment to Arua Central Division in March 2022, he had anticipated occupying a modern office complex but instead found himself stationed at the former River Oli headquarters.
He urged all involved in the project to uphold due diligence and ensure value for money during the construction process.
Charles Asiki, former mayor of the then Arua Municipality, noted that the council complex had been planned during his tenure but was shelved due to funding constraints and shifting priorities.
