Archbishop Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu of the Church of Uganda has called upon married couples to uphold exemplary lives befitting of true Christians, urging them to refrain from extramarital affairs.
Kaziimba noted with concern that many Christians have strayed from the values and virtues of Christianity, leading to promiscuous behaviour that often results in domestic violence, family breakdowns, and sometimes even death. He cautioned against the dishonesty that sometimes compels men to subject their children to DNA tests, emphasising that this does not provide a lasting solution to marital challenges.
"The right course of action is repentance, fostering trust, and fidelity with one's spouse. Let us strive for renewal and remain steadfast," he preached to the congregation at Christ Cathedral Bugembe in Jinja city during Sunday's service.
During his pastoral visit to Busoga Diocese, Kaziimba began with a tour of development projects, including the One World Health Centre in Bugembe and Mary's House, a conference centre under construction by the Mothers Union. He also commissioned the Busoga Diocese Savings and Cooperative Union (SACCO), urging residents to join and save for their development needs.
Encouraging continuity in development projects, Kaziimba advised clergy not to dismantle initiatives started by their predecessors but to build upon them for the benefit of the church and community.
"You should not dismantle what your predecessors started because you are not building your kingdom, but the kingdom of God," he emphasised, citing his involvement in completing the Church House project in Kampala despite not initiating it.
Kaziimba also announced the clearance of sh60b by the Church of Uganda for the construction of the multi-story Church House in Kampala. The head of the laity in Busoga Diocese, Paul Wanume, highlighted the challenges of poverty and underdevelopment, calling on the government to support the diocese's SACCO and revealing plans for a ten-year strategic development plan.
Dr Michael Kyomya, retired bishop of Busoga Diocese, also graced the ceremony.
