The Archbishop of Mbarara Archdiocese Lambert Beinomugisha has called on all Ugandans to observe peace during and after the January 14 general elections.

Beinomugisha said that after voting, people should go back home and wait to hold their celebrations from their respective homes rather than remaining at polling stations to cause chaos.

He made these remarks during Sunday mass at Nyamitanga Cathedral in Mbarara City where he was the main celebrant.

“I want to tell all Ugandans that there is life after elections, there is tomorrow, there is next month and next year. Therefore, let us vote peacefully,” Beinomugisha said.

“The recent birth of Jesus Christ and the blessings we received should not allow us to be violent, it should keep us in harmony even after elections,” he added.

On COVID-19, Beinomugisha revealed that the name COVID-19 might sound nice in the ears but it’s very dangerous to human life saying it has claimed very many people’s lives.

He expressed his dismay at the high level of complacence by Ugandans, especially in towns.

“People have gone back to their normal style of leaving as if the virus is not here, this worries me much. The virus is here and God will keep us safe but when we have done our part,” added Beinomugisha.

Ritah Atukwatse Bwahika who is vying for woman MP for Mbarara re-echoed the message of peace, saying politicians should use good language which does not trigger anger and violence among voters.

“Choosing a leader is everyone’s responsibility but the government through its security agencies should ensure that peace prevails,” she said.
