CORRUPTION | RWENZORI | REGION

RWENZORI - The Anti-Corruption Coalition has secured sh300m to help in investigating corruption cases in the Rwenzori region.

The agency’s Project Coordinator, Misaki Byomuntura, disclosed in a meeting aimed at arming the youth leaders from across the districts with skills to monitor and evaluate public projects in their respective areas.

The meeting, organised by the Rwenzori Anti-Corruption Coalition (RACC) and held at the district multi-purpose hall, the district chairman, Erifazi Muhindi, urged the participants to help in fighting corruption in the district.

Muhindi asked the RACC to probe alleged shoddy construction works on Kyempara and Nyakimasa Health Centres in Isango and Bwera sub-counties respectively.

According to Muhindi, the health facilities, which should have been handed over to the previous district authorities in the last five-year political term, have not been commissioned to date.

“The contractors have since disappeared from the sites,” said Muhindi who was elected early this year.

On assuming office, Muhindi, a former university lecturer, said he was determined to abolish the “job trading market” which he said he had found in the district.

Probing DSC impostor

Muhindi rubbished allegations that the recently concluded aptitude tests by the District Service Commission (DSC) were marred with corruption.

He, however, said his leadership was investigating a district staff, who had reportedly camouflaged as an agent of the DSC and conned some of the applicants of their money.

“Some job applicants have been alleging that someone claiming to have connections with our DSC fleeced the applicants of at least Sh150,000 on promises of job offers,” he said.
