An anaesthetic at Amudat Hospital in Amudat district has been remanded for two weeks by the Amudat Magistrate’s Court over allegations of stealing government medical supplies.

Alex Chemayek, 42, appeared before Magistrate Simon Opolot on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, this morning and denied the charge. He was remanded as investigations continue.

Prosecution told court that inquiries are ongoing and witnesses will be called in due course.

Court documents indicate that Chemayek was arrested at about 4:00 am on June 5, 2026, after hospital security allegedly saw him leaving the facility with a sack. Guards and a nurse reportedly followed him to his residence in the nurses’ quarters, where assorted medical items were recovered.

Police were alerted and arrested the suspect, opening a case of theft of government medicine under Amudat CRB 039/2026.

Recovered exhibits include sodium chloride, Ringer’s lactate, malaria test kits, surgical gloves, ceftriaxone injections, and zinc oxide bundles.
