All is set for the consecration and enthronement of the 6th bishop of Namirembe Diocese due to take place tomorrow (Sunday, December 10) at St Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe in Kampala.

Canon Moses Banja is replacing Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira who has served as bishop for over 14 years.

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr Stephen Kazimba Mugalu, is the main celebrant assisted by the church of Uganda bishops and other clergy.

The consecration church service is set to start at 9am with a procession of clergy and lay leaders.

“We hope to have a peaceful and blessed function throughout the day. I want to thank whoever contributed towards the function spiritually and financially,” Nantaggya added.

On Saturday, Namirembe diocesan secretary, Rev Can Henry Segawa, asked Christians to at least reach Namirembe before 9am to avoid any inconvenience.
      
He said that they have provided tents and big screens which will enable them to sit outside and follow.

"In cases of big numbers, large tents and big screens have been provided for people outside the Cathedral to follow the proceedings," Segawa said.  

The Namirembe diocese mission secretary, Rev Samuel Muwonge, said that security at the premises has been heightened and every person will be subjected to mandatory checks.
 
He asked Christians to bear with the guidelines put in place so that they don’t get interrupted.

Muwonge said that the cathedral parking lot has been reserved for vehicles with VVIP stickers while other guests will use the Mengo primary school playground and Mengo senior premises.

Canon Banja was elected by the House of Bishops on November 20, 2023, at St Stephens Cathedral in Bugiri district.
