Kira Municipality stands out as one of Kampala's most rapidly developing areas, particularly in the realms of Real Estate and business. This growth is prominently evident in key areas such as Mulawa, Bulindo, Kitukutwe, Nakwero, and beyond.
Despite this promising growth, a significant challenge persists: the deplorable state of the roads. Characterized by deep potholes, pervasive dust, and vehicles in precarious mechanical conditions, these roads remain a major deterrent.
Arjun, a newly relocated Indian businessman in Mulawa, voices his dismay over the poor road conditions. He laments how the omnipresent dust not only detracts from the dining experience for his customers but also poses a significant hindrance to his restaurant business.
"Mulawa is undeniably a burgeoning area, but the incessant dust on the roads adversely impacts numerous businesses, mine included," he remarks.
Brenda Nakakande, who operates a boutique business, shares similar sentiments about the challenges posed by the dusty roads.
"Dust is my primary concern, especially given the proximity of my business to the road," she explains.
"I constantly find myself having to dust off the clothes to maintain their quality, and it's becoming quite tedious."
However, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Benon Yiga, the town clerk of Kira Municipality, reveals that Kira is included in the Greater Kampala Urban Development Program. This signals positive change, as several roads in Kira are slated for much-needed improvement.

"It seems that very soon, dust will no longer be among the myriad problems plaguing the people of Kira," he asserts.
Among the flagship projects, the Najjera-Kira-Bulindo-Kiwolgoma project, as well as the Kungu-Kampala connection, stand out prominently. Additionally, there is an on-going project for the construction of the Kira-Kasangati-Matuga road under Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).

This project aims to alleviate traffic congestion from Kireka through Kyaliwajala, Kira, Matuga, and Kasangati. Regarding the Kira segment, it is funded by the World Bank, with bidding currently underway.
It is anticipated that contracts will be signed by June, with contractors mobilising to site by July.
"Our target is to complete the Najjera-Kira-Bulindo up to Kiwologoma stretch within one calendar year," said Yiga.
Construction is expected to commence in 2025.
However, potential delays loom if landowners refuse to relinquish their land. "As there are no compensation plans in place, individuals are voluntarily donating portions of their land to facilitate the project.”
