Two people have been confirmed dead following an accident that occurred at Laropi landing site on May 8, 2025, at around 8 pm.
The motor vehicle with registration number UBD 692P land cruiser which was among the cars parked on the ferry crossing from Omi landing site on the Adjumani side, slid off and fell into River Nile resulting in the death of a baby and an older woman identified as Masudio Zakia.
It is alleged that the two victims were in the vehicle which fell into the River Nile.
The bodies were retrieved after two hours and later transported to Adjumani hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
Police spokesperson for North West Nile region SP Ignatius Dragudu said the accident was a result of negligence by the driver.
Dragudu warned drivers against parking their vehicles on the ferry with passengers on board.

A team of police officers attached to Ara police station rushed to the scene and were later joined by officers from Adjumani.
A case of murder has been registered vide SD 104/08/05/2025 and statements were recorded from the survivors.
The public relations officer of Uganda National Roads Authority, Allan Kagina, who was contacted on the phone about the matter by press time said she was still verifying the matter.
Michael Manya, the driver of the Landcruiser has been arrested and detained at Adjumani central police station.
The vehicle has been retrieved and parked at the Ara police post in Adjumani.
