KASESE - The Rwenzururu Kingdom has Thursday marked its 57th coronation anniversary in Kasese district.

Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere’s 57th coronation anniversary comes, having missed the same for the last six years after clashes with security forces in 2016 that saw him arrested with several of his royal guards.

The then clashes left 103 people dead including 87 royal guards and 16 Police officers.

However, the Director of Public Prosecutions later dropped the several charges that arose from the said clashes after the cultural leader and his co sought amnesty.

Mumbere ascended to the throne to succeed his father Isaya Mukirania Kibanzanga, who died in 1966, and the coronation anniversary celebration was last held in 2016 in Kasese district.

The Vice President Jessica Alupo is presiding over the ceremony.
