30 new entrants appointed to cabinet

KAMPALA - A total of 30 ministers have been appointed as new entrants into the latest cabinet (2026-2031).

President Yoweri Museveni made the appointment today (May 26) just a day after the election of the speaker of parliament, Jacob Oboth-Oboth, and his deputy, Thomas Tayebwa.

Among the notable new entrants is National Resistance Movement Central Executive Member representing western Uganda, Jonard Asiimwe, who has been appointed the Minister in charge of Science, Technology and Innovation in the Office of the President.

Others are long-time diplomats, Amb. Adonia Ayebare, who has been appointed foreign affairs minister.

Dr Crispus Kiyonga, a former defence minister who had since been dropped from cabinet, has come back as the 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament.

Also newly appointed is Sanjay Tanna, who is the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, and the vocal Aringa South MP in Yumbe district, Alioni Yorke Odria, who was appointed as the Minister of State for Information, Communications Technology and National Guidance.
