Police in Luuka district have arrested a 21-year-old man following the discovery of two women dead at a family home in Bugobi village, Nawanyago parish, Irongo subcounty.

The deceased have been identified as Betty Tulina, 58, and Esther Mubeezi, 32, both residents of Bugobi village.

Police said the two women were residing at the same homestead as the suspect, who is a close family member.

According to preliminary information, another family member visited the home on the afternoon of September 7, 2026, and found the suspect at the residence but could not establish the whereabouts of the two women.

Further inquiries led to the discovery of the two women within the family residence under circumstances that raised suspicion of foul play.

The matter was subsequently reported to police, leading to the arrest of the 21-year-old suspect.

Samson Lubega, the Busoga North Regional Police spokesperson, said detectives had opened investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and the suspect’s alleged involvement.

Lubega said the suspect remains in police custody as investigators continue gathering evidence.

He added that police were aware of anger among some members of the community following the incident and urged residents to remain calm.

“Members of the public are urged to remain calm and avoid acts of mob justice, destruction of property or interference with the investigation,” Lubega said.

Police said the suspect will be presented before court upon completion of investigations and in accordance with the law.
