16-year-old girl hacks father to death over killing her rabbit

The territorial police in Rubanda are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 41-year-old Deusi Tukacungurwa, who was allegedly murdered by his 16-year-old biological daughter, Sarah Orikiriza. Both were residents of Mungaara cell, Kyenyi parish, Muko subcounty, Rubanda district.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, said the incident occurred on September 16, 2025, at around 6:00 pm in Mungaara Cell.

“Mary Tumuheise, the wife of the deceased, left home with one of her children and went to dig, leaving the husband (deceased) still sleeping with other children. She came back at around 8:30 pm from the garden, which is far and found her husband lying in the house in a pool of blood, and the children were not at home. She went and called her neighbours, who came with a torch and flashed and confirmed he was dead,” Maate said.

He revealed that shortly after, one of the daughters of the deceased, Miracle Trust, aged seven, returned from a neighbour’s home where she had run to. She told her mother that at around 6:00 pm, she saw her father killing a rabbit belonging to Orikiriza and informed her while she was grazing sheep.

“She came home and got a panga and cut the father on the head several times. That after killing him, she dressed up and left the home,” Maate stated.

He noted that police were informed by the area chairperson, Steven Bambabura. The scene was visited, processed, and documented. Relevant statements were recorded from witnesses, a panga was recovered at the scene, and a post-mortem was conducted.

“Inquiries at hand and efforts to have the suspect arrested are being made,” Maate noted.
