Police said they have made a breakthrough in the investigation of the murder by beheading of a private security guard in Kampala city suburb of Kansanga.
Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire on October 30, 2025, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect had confessed to the Wednesday murder.
Owoyesigyire said the suspect had volunteered to take them where he had hidden the knife and head. He, however, did not disclose the motive.
“The Territorial Police at Kabalagala Division have made progress in investigating the murder of Moses Epodoi, a 32-year-old security guard attached to Corporate Security Ltd, who was found dead on Thursday, October 29, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kansanga,” Owoyesigyire said.
He revealed that preliminary findings indicate that the deceased, who was on duty at the church gate, was attacked and beheaded by a suspect known to some church members. A team of Police officers visited and processed the scene, recovering several exhibits for forensic analysis.
“On Thursday, following an intelligence-led operation, police arrested the prime suspect, Caleb Alimu, at Ggaba Landing Site. He has since confessed to the murder and is guiding investigators to where he hid the head and knife used. The body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem, and investigations to establish the motive are ongoing,” he added.
Police thanked the public for their cooperation and urged continued vigilance.
The Police Annual crime report released in February this year indicated that a total of 4,329 cases of homicides were reported to the Police by the end of 2024, compared to 4,248 homicides reported in 2023, giving a 1.9% increase in homicides.
