11 suspects arrested in Nsangi over aggravated robbery, rape
Police said the incident happened on July 28, 2026, at about 4:00am, when an unknown assailant reportedly broke into the complainant's shop before attacking her with a knife.

Police on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, said they have arrested 11 suspects in connection with an aggravated robbery and rape incident that occurred at Nakirama Cell, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.
Racheal Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson, said the incident happened on July 28, 2026, at about 4:00am, when an unknown assailant reportedly broke into the complainant's shop before attacking her with a knife.
“The suspects demanded that the victim gives them money and threatened to cause her grievous harm if she did not comply. They later raped the victim before fleeing the scene,” Kawala said.
She said the victim subsequently reported the matter at Kikajo Police Post, leading to their arrest.
“A team of investigators from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), Scene of Crime Officers (SOCOs) and the Police Canine Unit visited the scene. The scene was examined, documented, and found to have been well preserved. A police sniffer dog was introduced at the victim's bedroom, where the attack had occurred. The canine successfully picked up the suspects' scent and tracked it for approximately one kilometer, leading officers to a bar,” Kawala said.
At the bar, Kawala explained that officers found more than 10 individuals, who were reportedly intoxicated. "The sniffer dog conducted scent identification and indicated one of the individuals by sitting down, prompting officers to apprehend all those present for further scrutiny,” she added.

The KMP spokesperson said the 11 suspects were taken to Kikajo Police Post under Nsangi Police Station, where they remain in custody as investigations continue.
“We continue with inquiries to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and identify the principal offender,” she stated.

While releasing the Uganda Police Force Annual Crime Report 2025 in April this year, Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba said a total of 196,405 cases were reported to Police compared to 218,715 in 2024, which represents a 10.2% reduction. Out of the reported cases, 115,301 were submitted to the Office of the Director Public Prosecutions from which 79,291 were taken to Court.
Out of the 32 policing regions in Uganda, KMP South registered the highest number of cases with 13,950, followed by Rwizi with 13,416, KMP North with 13,340, North Kyoga with 12,728 and KMP East with 10,388. At district/divisional level, Wakiso Police Division registered the highest number of cases with 3,177, followed by Luweero Police Station with 3,123, Mukono Police Division with 2,880, Tororo Police Station with 2,831 and Ntungamo Police Station with 2,825.
“We continue with inquiries to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and identify the principal offender,” she stated.
