Working non-stop took a toll on me — Katikkiro Mayiga

“There is always a danger of working full throttle. When I became Katikkiro in 2013, I worked three straight years without a break, including being engaged on public holidays,” he said today, August 10.

MENGO - Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister (Katikkiro) Charles Peter Mayiga has emphasised the importance of taking leave, saying working without resting for three years after assuming office in 2013 took a heavy toll on him.

“There is always a danger of working full throttle. When I became Katikkiro in 2013, I worked three straight years without a break, including being engaged on public holidays,” he said today, August 10.

In a post on his X platform, Mayiga added; “I left office late; mobilised the people in Buganda, engaged communities, started programs and projects, delivered speeches... It took a huge toll on me.”

The Katikkiro stressed the importance of taking leave, noting that when he is on holiday, he does not receive calls or messages on work-related matters or anything, including news on deaths.

“Nothing relieves work-related stress like doing something one enjoys, especially when on holiday,” he said.

Health experts say while work can contribute to people’s mental and physical well-being, overworking can lead to health problems. These problems include chronic musculoskeletal disorders like back pain and stress.

Experts explain that overworking means people do not have the time or energy to look after their own health.
