Why men fear commitment

Although some women complain incessantly about men shying away from commitment, men say they have their reasons.

Judith Bakirya, popularly known as Ssenga Namazzi, shares the following reasons as to why men, who are eligible for marriage, shy away from commitment:

1. Prioritizing money and an extravagant lifestyle;
   
   When a woman appears to focus a lot on a man’s money, cars, and expensive lifestyle rather than his character, some men fear that she might not be ready for a marital relationship.
   
   
2. Fear of responsibility
   
   Some women enjoy the ceremony but abhor marriage. They want to wear wedding gowns in places of worship and living a life of freedom, but shun taking on the responsibilities of building a home and marriage, such as looking after children, taking care of their husband, and other duties.
   
   
3. Social media activity and influence
   
   Social media also presents unique challenges as women post pictures of their social life, some of which show them as scantily dressed, wild, and generally indecent. Sometimes, men think such women are immature.
   
   
4. Disrespect
   
   Many men want a woman who respects herself, is humble, and can speak well. If a girl speaks arrogantly and belittles men, they may doubt her suitability.
   
   
5. Not having a clear goal for the relationship
   
   Sometimes, women get into relationships for gifts, fun, or personal gain. They do not show how invested they are in a relationship that leads to marriage.
   
   
6. High expectations of a man
   
   If a woman wants a man who is “perfect”, with a lot of money or a high status, many committed men may avoid her because they want someone genuine.
   
   
7. Controlled by friends
   
   Friends also play a big role in making women eligible or not. Some circles of friends heavily impact and dictate women’s behaviour. If a woman is highly influenced by her friends who do not care for marriage, suitors may eventually leave her because she is not firm or cannot make her own decisions. She relies on her friends to make decisions.
   
   
8. Unfaithfulness
   
   Cheating has become commonplace for some women. They lie and cheat on committed men.
   
   
9. Lack of patience
   
   A relationship that will lead to marriage requires patience, forgiveness, and mutual understanding. If a woman has a lot of anger, jealousy, and cannot discuss issues peacefully to resolve them, suitors may avoid her.
