Museveni urges couples to build long-lasting relationships

LUWEERO - President Yoweri Museveni has urged couples to build long-lasting relationships in order to uphold the institution of marriage.
The President said over the weekend that many marriages break down after a short time, to the detriment of the institution of marriage.
"Many marriages break up just a few hours, a few weeks, a few years," Museveni said.
The message was contained in a written speech delivered by Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja during the silver jubilee marriage celebration organised for the Anglican Bishop of Luweero, Wilson Kisekka, and his wife, Rachael.
The ceremony, at which Bishop Kisekka and his wife renewed their vows, took place on August 1, 2026, at Luweero Anglican Cathedral and was presided over by Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba.
Museveni commended the couple for their enduring marriage, saying they were an inspiration to young couples.
"You are now an inspiration and a torchbearer to all the young couples. They will always look up to you as their role model, and they will be coming to you for good counsel," said Museveni in his speech.
The President, through Prime Minister Nabanja, donated 10 cows to Bishop Kisekka and his wife. He said the couple had cause to celebrate having remained together for 25 years.

"The silver jubilee anniversary is indeed worth celebrating by friends, family, colleagues and well-wishers. It is indeed a landmark achievement to be married for 25 years up to now," Museveni said.
The speaker of Buganda Lukiiko, Patrick Mugumbule, who represented Katikkiro Charles Mayiga, said Bishop Kisekka and his wife were a good example that couples can live happily together for a long time.
Mugumbule thanked Bishop Kisekka for loving his wife.
He said the Buganda Kingdom encourages its people to uphold the institution of marriage because the family is the foundation of a nation.
Archbishop Kazimba urged wives to submit to their husbands regardless of their social status so that they can live in harmony with their spouses.
The ceremony was attended by more than 800 guests, including clergymen, Church of Uganda officials, Members of Parliament, prominent businesspeople and delegations of Anglican faithful from across the region.
