BUSHENYI - Forty-one couples have tied the knot in a mass wedding ceremony at St Peter Catholic Church, Kitabi, in Bushenyi district.
The ceremony took place on November 1, 2026, during a Mass to celebrate All Saints’ Day.
The wedding was presided over by the Vicar General of Mbarara Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Severinus Ndugwa, who urged the newlyweds to remain faithful to their spouses, love one another and uphold Christian marriage values.
He encouraged the couples to build their families on faith, commitment and mutual respect, saying these were essential foundations for lasting marriages.
The parish priest of St Peter Catholic Parish, Kitabi, Rev. Fr Hillary Katusiime, urged the newlyweds to maintain personal hygiene and take care of themselves and their families.
During the same function, an initiative to construct a health centre at the parish was launched, with about sh100m raised towards the project.
Eng. Dr Silver Mugisha, the managing director of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) and head of laity for Mbarara Archdiocese, was the chief guest. He urged the couples to strengthen their faith, love one another and work hard to develop their families.

Mugisha also expressed concern over what he described as the declining participation of men in church activities, saying many had left religious responsibilities to women while spending more time at entertainment venues.
"Going to discos is not necessarily a problem. You can go there and dance, but on Sunday, make sure you go to church. However, do not spend your time in entertainment venues at the expense of developing your homes. Use such opportunities to learn how to build your families and undertake meaningful development programmes," he said.
Bushenyi district woman MP Annet Katusiime Mugisha urged couples, particularly women, to respect their husbands and engage in household income-generating activities.
She said financial empowerment within families could contribute to stable marriages, noting that women should also have economic activities that enable them to support their households.
Bushenyi resident district commissioner Emmy Ngabirano urged the couples to seek guidance from religious leaders whenever they encountered misunderstandings in their marriages
He cautioned them against allowing family disagreements to escalate, saying religious leaders should be their first point of reference when seeking reconciliation.
"Now that you have been wedded in this church, I do not want to see you in my office because of marital disputes. Whenever problems arise, first approach your reverend fathers for guidance and counselling," he said.
