Uganda wins sh168b for HIV/AIDS vaccine research

JCRC and Makerere University Walter Reed Project are part of a consortium that has been awarded this 5-year grant by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Diana Kanzira Atwine, will be the guest of honor at the press conference a statement to national partners about the grant will be made public.

KAMPALA - The Joint Clinical Research Center (JCRC) and Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) have been awarded a sh168,811,425,000b grant ($45 million) to advance HIV vaccine research & development in Uganda.

The grant will also be used to test vaccines that are being designed and developed in Africa. This announcement was made public by USAID at the United Nations General Assembly on September 20, 2023, in New York.

JCRC and Makerere University Walter Reed Project are part of a consortium that has been awarded this 5-year grant by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

According to JCRC and MUWRP leadership, a statement to national partners about this grant will be made public on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in Kampala.
