Soroti Regional Referral Hospital has reported an increase in rabies-related cases, with health workers seeing between 5 and 7 dog-bite victims daily.

Hospital pharmacist Dr Francis Oboi says the daily numbers suggest that dog bites remain a significant public health concern in the region.

To address the problem, the hospital has increased its rabies vaccine stock to 1,000 vials per supply cycle.

At least 88 patients visited Soroti Hospital last quarter with dog bites.

Hospital Director Dr Benedicto Watmon says the additional vaccine supplies are intended to ensure timely treatment for bite victims.
