Rotarians seek over sh180m for maternal, child health in Kamuli district

The Rotary Club of Bweyogerere Central is seeking over sh183m ($50,000) for maternal and child health care for expectant mothers at Bulamuka Health Centre III in Kamuli district.
While giving his maiden speech shortly after his installation as the 9th club President on May 17, Richard Kakube revealed that over the years the club has undertaken two signature projects which include maternal and child health care and literacy in Bulamuka village in Kamuli district.
“We want to help the expectant mothers that are underprivileged and cannot afford the necessary basic services while pregnant and even after birth. We shall provide over 200 treated sleeping mosquito nets for the mothers, and mama kits among others,” Kakube said.

John Star Ayebazibwe, the immediate past president appealed to Kakube to encourage teamwork and partnerships as a strategy to grow stronger with other neighboring clubs.
Gerald Obai, the District Governor nominee designate of D9213 noted that the power of Rotary lies in unity, adding that the Rotary Club of Bweyogerere Central was the first club in D9213 to contribute and complete towards the Rotary foundation in the 2025 rotary year.
He appealed to Kakube to create a club of inclusiveness because all members need to feel valued and respected.
Obai appealed to the club members to uplift and support their president and guide him where necessary.
George William Byansi, the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions noted that he was once a Rotarian but backslid adding that Rotary has done a tremendous job in impacting the society, especially fighting crime.
“I take Rotary as a partner in the fight against crime. You have done a good work in impacting the society and because of this, there has been a significant reduction in crime in the country,” Byansi said.
