Management at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital has reported an influx of patient attendants which compromises safety and strains resources.

The authorities are worried that if not contained, this could lead to more infections by the attendants and re-infection on part of the patients.

According to Benzy Omoya, the principal hospital administrator, the number of attendants has increased yet the wards were designed to accommodate fewer people.

Omoya says the hospital has over 320 patients admitted and the most affected wards include the maternity, children’s, and medical wards.

The unplanned numbers, he added lead to misuse of facilities in the hospital.
