Reigning Mr. Uganda Godfrey Lubega has set sights on this year’s Africa coveted bodybuilding crown.
Lubega revealed this upon his return from this year’s Mr. and Ms. East Africa Natural Bodybuilding contest’ that was held at Rupaz Health and Fitness Centre in Eldoret, Kenya on October 7.
In Eldoret, the 2022 Mr Uganda bodybuilding champion flexed his muscles to cruise to gold in the middleweight category before finishing fifth in the overall category.
His mesmerizing performance booked him a ticket to this year’s Mr and Ms Africa natural bodybuilding championship slated for December in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.
But Lubega who was beaten by Tanzania’s Erick Majura and Kenya’s second-placed Wallace Rago in the overall category is confident of landing the Africa gong.
“I’m confident, I have got everything to win the African title. I just need to correct a few mistakes that dented my chances to win the East Africa championship” Lubega noted.
“I have better muscles compared to those of the Tanzanian guy and Kenyan that emerged first and second overall. I just need to improve my diet and feed on better muscle supplements. It's where I lost to these two.”
Lubega captained Uganda's bodybuilding team of 13 musclemen and women that among others had bantamweight Aksam Kisekka, Light heavyweight Abdul Nasser Mwanje, heavyweight Peter Mudhasi, amputee Swafaru Tamale, females Shamina Mukyala and Patricia Nakafero respectively.
Kisekka finished fourth as Mwanje in their respective categories. Mudhasi finished fifth.
Lubega’s performance in Eldoret came on top of winning this year’s Mr. Central region bodybuilding championship title in September.
The ISK gym muscle man's rise to fame came in 2019 when Lubega clinched the 2019 Mr Kampala title.
Since then he has been a regular if not the most consistent muscleman in Uganda bodybuilding after Isaac Mubikirwa, the three-time Mr. Uganda champion.
