KAMULI - In the bid to improve efficiency and service delivery, Naminage Health Centre (HC) II in Kamuli district has been equipped with an electronic management record system.
The digital innovative solution was unveiled at the health centre on February 19, 2025, and attracted several officials including Kamuli district local government officials and Busoga region religious leaders.
The assistant district health officer in charge of maternal and child health, Moses Lyaagoba Moses described the launch as a great milestone given that in the entire Kamuli district, it is only the district's general hospital installed with the system, which is still in the pilot phase.
This innovation, consequently makes the HCII a centre of excellence, according to Lyaagoba.
The development comes at a time when the health ministry is advocating for electronic management record systems (EMRs) to track healthcare provision at each point of care (POC). So, the laboratory should be connected to the triage, to the pharmacy and beyond.
The launch was jointly conducted by the American Tower Corporation (ATC) Uganda Ltd and LifeNet International Uganda, with support from Synalytic and Streamline Health.
LifeNet International country director Patricia Namakula said with the EMR system in place, health workers will follow through with the patient from when they enter the facility to when they exit it and that record will stay at the facility.

“We want health workers to save time they would otherwise put into reporting and capturing all this data manually,” Namakula said.
LifeNet president Shep Owen said the launch would not have been possible without the support of the Church, government partners, healthcare workers and community leaders,
She further noted that LifeNet exists to support those who are already making a difference.
For example, the agency works alongside partners such as Naminege HCII, providing training and leveraging the great work that they are already doing to make it even better.
“We have relied on paper-based systems for reporting and management. We have worked hard to make those systems as effective as possible, but now, it is time for the next step—digitalisation,” Shep said.
LifeNet International transforms healthcare facilities across Africa to provide quality, sustainable healthcare and save lives.

Sheila Mugisha from ATC Uganda implored the health workers to embrace this opportunity and utilise the software: “Use the software that has been installed on the tablet and take this chance to further your education as well as research”.
Streamline Uganda chief executive officer Sam Mugisha said the electronic management records system will enable them to close the loopholes and stop losing money and drugs.
About the EMR system
Explaining how the EMR system works, Elvis Mugabi, the country lead Uganda Signalytic, said that immediately the tablets are turned on, they automatically connect to the Internet, giving health workers the opportunity to start the EMR.
Mugabi said all the friction that has been experienced with the conventional computers has been taken away allowing the health workers to focus on technology as a job aid.
“It is a tool for you to deliver high-quality health care to patients, and we want to keep it that way,” he said.
