Housing Finance Bank collects 52 units of blood in sixth annual drive
The blood will be processed by UBTS and distributed to health facilities to support mothers experiencing childbirth complications, accident victims, children with severe anaemia, patients undergoing surgery and individuals receiving treatment for chronic illnesses.

Housing Finance Bank (HFB), in partnership with Universal M. Enterprises Affordable Housing and the Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS), has collected 52 units of blood during its sixth annual blood donation drive aimed at helping address Uganda’s persistent blood shortage.
The exercise, held on Friday, July 10, at the bank’s head office in Kololo, brought together staff, customers, partners and members of the public to donate blood for patients requiring lifesaving transfusions across the country.
The blood will be processed by UBTS and distributed to health facilities to support mothers experiencing childbirth complications, accident victims, children with severe anaemia, patients undergoing surgery and individuals receiving treatment for chronic illnesses.
Call for regular donors
Speaking during the event, Housing Finance Bank Executive Director Peace Ayebazibwe said supporting healthy communities remains central to the bank’s purpose and long-term sustainability.
She emphasised that access to safe blood remains critical in saving lives, particularly during emergencies where patients require immediate transfusions, but only if hospitals have adequate blood stocks to meet the growing demand.
Universal M. Enterprises Affordable Housing Managing Director Muffadal Yeolawala described the initiative as a demonstration of the partners’shared commitment to giving back to society.
He encouraged more individuals and organisations to participate in blood donation campaigns, saying every unit donated could save a life.
UBTS Blood Donor Recruiter Esther Awori applauded the long-standing partnership, noting that voluntary blood donors remain the backbone of a safe and reliable blood supply. She urged Ugandans to donate blood regularly to help replenish stocks and ensure patients receive the lifesaving care they need.
The bank said initiatives such as the annual blood donation drive are part of its broader commitment to creating shared value by investing in programmes that improve the wellbeing of communities, and partnerships between the private sector and public health institutions play a crucial role in addressing national challenges, including safe blood shortages.
