Patients at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital are celebrating after the facility installed two new X-ray machines to boost service delivery.
The new mobile X-ray machine, equipped with computer-aided software, is designed to enhance Tuberculosis (TB) screening and diagnosis in the district and beyond.
The facility now (Friday, March 17th) boasts three machines on top of the mobile machine for community outreaches.
Bwaga said that they recently acquired new, modern digital X-ray machines to improve diagnostic capabilities, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for care.
He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health for the support, assuring that the machine would be properly managed and utilised to benefit the community.
Bwaga hailed the acquisition of the two modern machines and the mobile X-ray machine as a landmark for the Bunyoro sub-region.
He noted that the machines would not only enhance TB screening and diagnosis but also contribute to the hospital’s efforts to serve the people, given its large catchment area.
Bwaga said that the government had also provided money to the facility to address the issue of staff shortage in the next financial year.
“We are going to attract a number of specialists in Hoima to help treat our people. The government has already given us the money,” Bwaga said.
He said that they have been struggling to offer health services without specialists to run some machines and administer treatment to patients. Some of the missing specialists include senior anaesthetist, paediatrician, dispenser, gynaecologist, surgeon and obstetrician, among others.
Bwaga said that following the renovation and expansion of the hospital, the government installed new equipment and created more units to offer better services to patients.
Gloria Iyamet, the senior administrator of the hospital, said that the government had also installed a transformer to run the newly installed oxygen manufacturing plant at the facility.
Iyamet said that currently they are spending about 1 million shillings per week on fuel to run the generator, which has been expensive for the facility.
“We have been spending one million shillings per week on fueling the generator to power the Oxygen plant. I am happy that the government has given us a transformer to run the facility,” she said.
Iyamet emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring that the health sector functions effectively to serve the people.
Yunus Businge, a resident of Buhinba in Kikuube district, urged the medical teams to properly manage the new X-ray machines and said that services at the facility had improved.
“We appreciate the government for boasting about our hospital, and currently, the services offered have improved,” Businge said.
