“I think it’s going to be challenging, especially in the beginning, because parents were not yet used to that culture of support. But over time, families will understand that when a son or daughter goes to medical school, the burden continues until they complete internship. On the other side, it will require a lot of innovation from the different internship centres to work out the best way of internally motivating these people,” Dr Odur said.
The changes in medical internship are scheduled to take effect beginning with the next cohort of interns in August this year.
